TOEFL iBT Writing 全2問対応テンプレート

さて、TOEFL iBTのラストを飾るセクションのWritingですが、これまた英文をタイプし慣れていない方には非常にハードなセクションです。QWERTY形式ではありますがキーボードも一般的な日本版キーボードではありませんし、たった2問で30点満点が決まってしまうためかなりのプレッシャーがかかってくると思います。そこで、ここでもやはりSpeaking同様テンプレートがある程度の高レベルまでは引き上げてくれます。それでは各問題ごとに分析してみましょう！


問題1（Integrated Task……Reading+Listening+Writing）：
・Academic Lecture（学術的講義）
・文章通読時間 3分 / リスニング時間2分～2分半 / 回答時間20分
・様々な分野の学問的文章（ある学問分野における意見・理論・概念・法則に関する具体的事例及び説明など）をまず読み（4段落程度：約230～300 語）、その後、 Readingの文章に対して主に否定・批判・誤謬指摘を行うための講義（約230～300語）を聞き、文章内容に対する批判的講義概要とそれを具体的説明を筋道立てて回答します。
・記述語数：150～225語

【テンプレート：問題1】

The lecturer talks about research conducted by （研究の主体） on （研究のテーマ）.
He says that the theory mentioned in the reading passage proved to be inaccurate considering when compared to what happened for real.
First, __________ （Listeningの内容を9割）.
　This is in contradiction to what is indicated in the reading passage.

この問題1で注意して頂きたいのは、あくまでListeningがメインだということ。問題文を見れば一目瞭然です。"Summarize the points made in the lecture you just heard, explaining how they cast doubt on points made in the reading."の中に、Reading内容を要約せよとは書いてませんし、ダイレクトに「今聞いた講義（＝Listening）のポイントを要約せよ」と書いています（cast doubt onの代わりにchallengeが用いられることもありますが、この2つは同義です）。また、至極稀にListeningがReadingを支持する場合がありますが、99%の割合でListeningはReadingに対する批難・反論を理由付きで説明しています。



問題 2（Independent Task……Writing only）：
・Something Familiar（一般的質問）
・回答時間30分
・事柄・状況などの一般的トピックに関して自身の嗜好及び価値観・意見とそれを裏付ける理由を記述します。
・記述語数：300語

【テンプレート：問題2】

In Japan, where I currently live, many people might think that _______.
However, I would personally prefer to/ agree with the point of view that _______ for the following reasons.
First of all, _______.
　To give a personal example, _______. （3～4文）
　This experience shows that _______.
Beyond that, _______.

問題2で好まれるのは個人の具体的経験に裏打ちされた意見の論理的構築です。上記の問題 2の答え方の流れとしては、【自分の意見をまず表明】→【理由（1）及びその具体的説明】→【理由（2）及びその具体的説明】→【異なる意見へのフォロー】→【だが結局自分の意見を支持】となります。字数・時間制限の都合上【異なる意見へのフォロー】は甘んじて省略しても良いと思いますが、意見の多様性・視野の広さをアピールするためにも書いておいて損は無いでしょう。問題1と比べて決まった構成が無いですし記入文字数も多いので意外と苦労するのが問題2ですが、具体例を盛り込みつつきちんと流れを俯瞰的に捉えて執筆していけば高得点は期待できるでしょう。
